The use of Pleth Variability Index (PVI) for the assessment of patients with dehydration in the pediatric emergency department

Objective: There is not a non-invasive, valid, and reliable criterion yet that can be used to determine the degree of dehydration responsiveness fluid treatment. In literature, Pleth Variability Index (PVI) has been studied as one additional tools dehydration. Studies on this topic have conducted mainly patients who are connected mechanical ventilators. This study was assess feasibility PVI measurement in paediatric breathe spontaneously, dehydrated moderately need repletion. Material Methods: For purpose, PVI, blood gas (pH, HCO3, lactate), body weights were measured before after replacement. The delta (Δ) values calculated by taking difference between therapy, correlation examined. Results: After hour treatment, weight, physical examination, (bicarbonate, lactate, pH) improved significantly compared pre-fluid levels, high found decrease significantly. However, no significant change (ΔPVI) other variables (Δ kilo, pH, bicarbonate), which Conclusion: According findings our study, alone does provide adequate data children spontaneously
